10 Fun and Frugal Fall Activities
Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean the fun has to end! There are plenty of cheap and fun activities you can do to celebrate fall. Here are 10 of our favorites:
1. Go on a nature walk and collect leaves. This is a great activity to do with kids or grandkids. Once you’ve collected a nice variety of leaves, you can use them to make crafts or decorations.
2. Make a homemade pumpkin spice latte. This popular fall drink is actually really easy (and inexpensive) to make at home. All you need is some coffee, milk, pumpkin puree, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Yum!
3. Visit a pumpkin patch. Pumpkins are synonymous with fall, so take advantage of all the local pumpkin patches and pick out the perfect one for carving or baking. Most pumpkin patches also have hayrides, petting zoos, and other fun activities for an affordable day out. They’re also a lot of fun to walk around in and take photos. You may even find a few other fall-themed items like corn stalks or hay bales while you’re there.
4. Go apple picking. Spending a day at an apple orchard is the perfect way to enjoy the crisp autumn air and get in the seasonal spirit. Plus, you’ll have plenty of apples for baking pies, making cider, or just snacking on! Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be doing a lot of walking.
5. Host a bonfire and roast marshmallows. There’s nothing like gathering around a cozy fire with friends or family on a cool autumn night. Don’t forget the s’mores fixings! Just be sure to follow all safety precautions when building and extinguishing your fire.
6. Make a fall-themed wreath for your front door. There are lots of tutorials online for how to make beautiful (and cheap) wreaths out of leaves, pumpkins, berries, and more.
7. Volunteer at a haunted house. If you’re looking for something different to do this Halloween season, consider volunteering at a local haunted house attraction. You could be working behind the scenes or even playing one of the monsters.
8. Host a Halloween movie marathon featuring all your favorite scary movies. This is the perfect activity for a rainy autumn day (or night!). Make it extra fun by turning off all the lights, popping some popcorn, and inviting friends over in costume.
9. Take a drive to see the changing leaves. There’s nothing like seeing the gorgeous colors of fall foliage in person. So load up your car with some snacks and hit the open road. Then at night you can go stargazing. Fall is an ideal time for stargazing because there are fewer daylight hours and more stars visible in the night sky. Find a dark spot away from city lights, lie down on a blanket, and enjoy.
10. Visit a farmers market. Fall is the perfect time to take advantage of all the delicious seasonal produce that’s available. Stop by your local farmers market and stock up on fresh fruits, vegetables, and maybe even some homemade goods like pies or jams.
